Launch Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition, choose Multiplayer, open the server browser and search for "Auldwyn". Join the community Discord if you need help connecting or setting up.

Accepted Answer

Yes. Auldwyn is free. You only need to own a copy of Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition, which is sold separately by Beamdog on Steam, GOG and other stores.

Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition (NWN:EE). The original 2002 Diamond edition is not supported.

Characters advance from level 1 to level 40. Progression is deliberately slow and story-driven rather than grind-focused.

Is Auldwyn set in the Forgotten Realms?

No. Auldwyn is an entirely original setting. It has its own creation myth, its own pantheon of thirty deities and powers led by Kael, Riya and Xeros, and its own regions and peoples.

We don't enforce roleplay and we've always made it clear that all play styles are welcome, but roleplay is encouraged. More than anything, Auldwyn is a welcoming and safe place for many different types of gamers.

New characters typically begin in Aucklorn Vale, a secluded valley of wooded slopes, cold water and old roads, centred on the settlement of Aucklorn Mill.

Auldwyn is a live server, which is in active development. New content is published often. Players are welcome to log in and play.

Where in the campaign timeline are we now?

Auldwyn begins at the opening of a new story. This is a new campaign setting with its own history, gods, cultures, conflicts, and themes. The current story begins in a time of unease and change, with strange weather, restless dead, corrupted places, and forgotten horrors beginning to surface. Players will begin in and around Aucklorn Vale, a beautiful but troubled valley tucked between the draws of a great mountain range.

Is Auldwyn connected to previous campaign settings?

No. Auldwyn is a new original setting. It is not a continuation of another campaign, module, or timeline. Characters, factions, politics, wars, religions, and major events from other settings should not be assumed to exist here.

Can I bring in a character from another setting?

Accepted Answer

You may take inspiration from a character you have played elsewhere, but direct imports from other IP settings (Forgotten Realms, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Wheel of Time, etc.) are not supported. Players are encouraged to create characters who have roots in Auldwyn and whose stories can grow naturally within the setting.

Auldwyn is a world of beauty, memory, mystery, consequence, and hard-won hope. It is not a dead world; ordinary people still live meaningful lives even as a deeper primordial evil presses against the world through the silence of Amara, the goddess of memory.

Can players be vampires, werewolves, demons, devils, angels, liches, dragons, or similar creatures?

Not as starting character concepts. These are reserved for rare, story-driven circumstances approved by staff, and are not generally supported as ordinary character backgrounds.

Can I play an evil character?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Evil-aligned or morally dark characters are possible, but must be played responsibly and must not be used to grief other players, derail stories, or force unwanted experiences on others.

How does religion work in Auldwyn?

Auldwyn has its own pantheon and religious traditions woven into daily life. Characters may be deeply faithful, casually observant, skeptical, or conflicted, but real-world mythology and lore from other settings does not apply.

Can characters be permanently killed?

Accepted Answer

Player characters cannot be permanently killed by other players without the consent of the character's player. The DM team reserves the right to apply serious consequences in rare and significant story circumstances.

What happens when I lose a PvP encounter?

Accepted Answer

Losing a PvP encounter should be treated as an in-character defeat: the character may be wounded, forced to withdraw, robbed, captured, or otherwise affected. PvP must never be used to grief, harass, or repeatedly target another player.

What should I keep in mind when making a character?

Accepted Answer

Your character does not need to know everything about the world or be heroic. What matters is that they have a reason to exist in the setting and room to grow through interaction with others.
